This week we had the joy of welcoming the WestJet team to Ronald McDonald House Toronto as part of their national Christmas Miracle campaign. This year, WestJet visited every Ronald McDonald House across Canada, bringing moments of comfort, connection, and holiday magic to families who will be spending the season far from home.

To create this experience, WestJet first reached out to families who have stayed at a Ronald McDonald House in the past. They asked them to share what it feels like to be here during one of the hardest moments in a parent’s life — and invited these alumni families to record personal, heartfelt messages to those currently staying at Ronald McDonald House. These messages helped guide WestJetters as they thoughtfully selected gifts for every family across the country.

On December 10, WestJet employees arrived at Ronald McDonald House Toronto with kindness, warmth, and a spirit of generosity. They set up a festive space filled with gifts, surprises, and messages of hope. Over the afternoon, groups of families joined the celebration and felt the joy, support, and the unmistakable magic of community coming together.

When a child is hospitalized, they deserve a well-cared-for family by their side. But for two-thirds of Canadians who live without a children’s hospital in their community, travel is a necessity — not a choice. Last year alone, families staying at Ronald McDonald House programs travelled more than 4.5 million kilometres to access life-saving medical care.

At Ronald McDonald House, we always say we’re more than just a place to stay — and it’s true. For families who are far from home, it means having a warm room just steps from the hospital, a hot meal shared around a table, and the mental-health and wellness supports that help them get through the hardest days. Most of all, it’s a caring community that surrounds them so they can stay strong for their child.

Since 2007, WestJet has been an essential part of that community. Their support has made an extraordinary impact, providing more than 7,200 one-way flights to help families travel for medical care, and supporting Ronald McDonald House programs and fundraising efforts nationwide.

This year’s Christmas Miracle was made possible thanks to over 700 WestJetters from across Canada who volunteered their time—shopping, wrapping, packing, delivering, and shipping thousands of gifts to Ronald McDonald House programs from Vancouver to Newfoundland.

We are deeply grateful to WestJet, their incredible employees, and the alumni families who shared messages of hope. Their thoughtfulness brought joy and relief to families spending the holidays at Ronald McDonald House Toronto and reminded us all of the power of community, generosity, and care.
